Inclusive Education: Definition, Strategies to Create Such Environment

Inclusive education is the form of teaching the students in a collective way,i.e. the students facing some physical or mental challenges. Inclusive education gives the right to the special students to attend the regular classes and get support to learn. This is a form of education which along with helping such students also contribute to their lives by letting them be a part of the activities taking place in the school.

The main motive of introducing inclusive education

Every student has the right to education, and it is our duty to help the needy and underprivileged. Here, we can think about the different designs and strategies in which we can make the classrooms the best learning place for them. By designing such classrooms and introducing programs for children with special needs, we are ensuring access to quality education for all the students. It is the main aim of inclusive education.

What is the concept on which inclusive education operates?

The schools and the universities work on the result that the competency level of both the students, with and without disabilities is the same. Special children have the ability of participating in the local school community and classrooms. The responsibility of the universities is creating a commonlearning environment. It aims at creating an environment in which they are not differentiated from their peers.

What else can be included in the inclusive education?

Along with textual education, the teachers should include music rooms, gym, performances in theatres, playgrounds, local community, and playgrounds.

Ways education leaders create an inclusive environment

  1. Preparing teachers-

Highly trained teachersare requiredto educate the students about oppression and privilege. The educational academies should concentrate on this and have enough of an understanding of the requisites of the topics. Well-versed teachers would be able to properly support and help the students.

  1. Academic support-

Ensuring opportunity to all students is necessary, andinclusive learning helps in recommending schools providing academic support. For example, the students should have the capability of writing a college essay as academic writing taskhas become an integral part ofacademics.

  1. Integration of the student bodies-

There have been many proposals made for the integration of the student body populations. These will help in the transfer of the programs to redrawing school neighbourhood boundaries.

  1. Scheduling-

According to research conducted at the Massachusetts Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, a proper schedule for addressing the concepts like global power structures, privilege, oppression and racism is the key in this context. Inequality is to be combated and for this only providing student with the knowledge of facts does not count.

  1. Creation of the respectful school community-

It is not that difficult to foster a scenario in which the students with special needs can read and write with the rest of the students. This can be achieved with hiring skillfulstaff which reflect diversity to the students. The staff should be capable of demonstrating respect for people at the institutional level and economic backgrounds. The students should get such an environment in which they can work and learn well and without any differences in peer. School community can reflect such abilities which would help them experience all these aspects and help them navigate the discrimination and oppression related issues.

  1. Time and space for discussion-

Some space must be given to the students in which they can put forward their thoughts and views and ask questions in the classroom. It has been observed that the students more often arise the need of talking about structural oppression and privilege.

  1. Raising awareness –

Many of the readers might be new to the term inclusive education. This implies that there is a need for raising awareness of the topic and letting people know about it. Higher the awareness rate easier it becomes to practice inclusive education.

  1. Adjustment of the ranking calculations-

The schools must be ordered to address the concerns of adjusting the evaluation measurements. This will help in considering the intercultural understanding and the diversity of the student population.

  1. Flexible groupings-

The schools should use a variety of instructional formats and use technology. Interactive whiteboards can be used to get the students engaged in the classroom. Moreover, the mentor can also go for paired learning, small groups etc.

The approach has a bright future. There are various benefits of inclusive education for regular students as well. Becoming more positive, compassionate and empathetic are a few of them.
