Hypothetical Research

Home Hypothetical Research

The hypothetical research is any kind of research which include hypothesis or ideas. The hypothesis can be present in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The format of hypothetical research design

Survey method

After clarifying the research questions and the main aim of doing research, there should be the appropriate selection of a survey method. The main reason for selecting a particular survey method should also be defined. the overall survey method should include the hypothesis, research design, sampling, measures, and ethical protections of the participants. The survey method may include both qualitative and quantitative research.

Qualitative hypothetical research

The qualitative hypothetical research includes research aim or purpose on the basis of which the research questions are included. It should include the identification of objectives of a project, project scope, review of literatures, formulation of research questions as well as research hypothesis, the research design which is to be followed, the collection of data including primary or secondary resources, sample size on the basis of which the participants of the research are selected, the method of collecting data, and at last the interpretations are formulated which are collected from the particular research method. The qualitative hypothetical research design includes a subjective analysis, exploratory analysis etc. in order to test the formulated research results.

Quantitative hypothetical research

Similar to the qualitative research method, quantitative hypothetical research includes research aim or purpose on the basis of which the research questions are included. It should also include the identification of objectives of a project, project scope, review of the literature, formulation of research questions as well as research hypothesis, the research design which is to be followed. The collection of data also includes primary or secondary resources, sample size should be present on the basis of which the participants of the research are selected, the method of collecting data, and at last, the interpretations are formulated which are collected from the particular research method. The quantitative hypothetical research design includes a particular test in order to test the formulated research results. These tests may include t-test, correlation test etc. This is the main difference between qualitative and quantitative hypothetical research designs.

Example of qualitative hypothetical research design

Research questions

For hypothetical research, there must include the research questions. the research should also state the main purpose of the research. one research question may also include the sub-question which is related to it. Let us suppose that the research is all about finding the impact of digital marketing on IT organizations. Therefore, the following will be the research questions for satisfying the main aim of the research:

RQ1: What are the potentials of Digital marketing in IT organizations?

RQ1.1 What is the impact of Digital Marketing on business growth of IT organizations?

RQ1.2 What is the impact of Digital Marketing on the market value of IT organizations?

Research hypothesis

The formulated research hypothesis should be on the basis of research questions. the research hypothesis is useful in depicting the research results in an appropriate manner along with finding the impact of one variable on another. The impact may be positive, negative or significant. There should be a null hypothesis at first on the basis of which alternative hypothesis is written. Following is the example of research hypothesis on the selected case scenario:

Null hypothesis: There is a positive impact of digital marketing on the business growth of IT organizations.

Alternative hypothesis: There is a negative impact of digital marketing on the business growth of IT organizations.

Null hypothesis:  There is a positive impact of digital marketing on the market value of IT organizations.

Alternative hypothesis: There is a negative impact of digital marketing on the market value of IT organizations.

Sample size or sampling

The selection of sample size in the research should be on the basis of various participants which are included in a survey of data collection. Sampling technique may be purposive or random sampling based on the research selection.

Population

The population should include who the study is proposed for. Example of the population may include age, gender, ethnicity etc.

Ethical protections of participation

This should include a brief statement on the ethical issues which are considered in the study.
